Stagger Inn Again, Buffalo Wild Wings named in car accident suit

Two Madison County residents claim they sustained numerous injuries after an allegedly intoxicated driver failed to yield at a stop sign and struck them.

Katelyn Lawrence and Joshua Shaw filed a lawsuit March 18 in Madison County Circuit Court against Amanda Carter, TSBN Cleos, Stagger Inn Again and A Sure Wing doing business as Buffalo Wild Wings Bar and Grill.

Lawrence claims she drove east on East Airline Drive at its intersection with West Rosedale Drive in East Alton on March 26, 2009. Shaw rode as a passenger in Lawrence's vehicle, according to the complaint.

Suddenly, Carter, who drove north on West Rosedale Drive, disobeyed a stop sign and struck the vehicle Lawrence drove, the suit states.

Because of the collision, Lawrence suffered severe and permanent injuries to her neck and back while Shaw sustained injuries to his neck, back, ribs, right ankle and head, the complaint states. Both plaintiffs claim they suffered great mental and physical pain and mental anguish, incurred medical costs and remain unable to enjoy their normal life pursuits.

They blame Carter for causing the accident, saying she failed to reduce her speed to avoid a collision, drove at an improper rate of speed, failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to stop at an intersection and drove while under the influence of alcohol.

Before the collision, Carter visited the remaining defendants where she obtained alcoholic beverages that caused her intoxicated state at the time of the accident, according to the complaint.

In the eight-count suit, Lawrence and Shaw seek a judgment of more than $400,000, plus costs.

J. Robert Edmonds of Mormino, Velloff, Edmonds and Snider in Alton will be representing them.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-308.
