Judge resets status conference in St. Louis Bread Co. coffee spill case

A status conference has been moved to May 18 as discovery continues in a St. Clair County suit over coffee that allegedly burned an infant at a St. Louis Bread Company restaurant.

Meanwhile, both parties have been in the process of taking depositions and continuing discovery, according to the case file.

Jatonya Hopkins and her husband, Larry Hopkins Sr., are suing Panera Bread Company Inc. and Daniel Williams for damages in excess of $100,000 and costs.

The plaintiffs claim that the couple's infant son, Larry Hopkins Jr., was burned by coffee that spilled when a table was jarred. The couple allege that Jatonya Hopkins told St. Louis Bread Company staff not to bring her coffee to her and that no one warned her that it was on the table behind her.

Panera owns the St. Louis Bread Company stores.

Panera denies that it and its staff were negligent and contend that Jatonya Hopkins contributed to the incident.

The plaintiffs are represented by Matthew Marlin.

The defendants are represented by Beth Boggs.

The case is assigned to St. Clair County Circuit Judge Robert LeChien.

The case is St. Clair County case number 195.
