A Madison County man claims Olin Brass wrongfully fired him after he applied for workers' compensation benefits.

William Worthen Jr. filed a lawsuit March 17 in Madison County Circuit Court against GBC Metal doing business as Olin Brass.

Worthen claims he sustained an injury while working at Olin Brass on Jan. 3, 2010, and subsequently applied for workers' compensation benefits.

However, after Worthen applied for the benefits, Olin Brass discharged him despite the Illinois Workers' Compensation Act, which prohibits such behavior, according to the complaint.

Because of his termination, Worthen suffered a loss of income and benefits and suffered mental anguish and pain, the suit states.

In his two-count suit, Worthen seeks a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs.

Jon Rosenstengel of the Law Offices of Bonifield and Rosenstengel in Belleville will be representing him.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-301.
