A case management conference is set Wednesday in a father's suit against an Alton school district over injuries his son suffered when the boy was beaten up on a school bus.

Plaintiff Thanh Van Nguyen, acting for his son, Huy Kien Nguyen, is seeking damages of at least $50,000, costs and his son's medical bills.

Madison County Circuit Judge David Hylla is set to preside over the conference at 9:30 a.m. Jan. 27.

According to his complaint, Huy Kien Nguyen was on a class field trip in May 2005 on a bus when he was assaulted by several fellow students.

The boy's teacher was on board as well and allegedly failed to remove the students who were assaulting him from the bus, failed to stop the incident, and failed to protect Huy Kien Nguygen.

Thanh Van Nguyen also asserts that there were not enough supervisors monitoring the students.

As a result, Huy Kien was injured, the complaint states.

His father has sued Alton Community Unit School District #11 as owner of his son's school.

The case had been set for trial last October.

However, the trial was canceled due to plaintiff's attorney Robert Gregory's move to withdraw from the case, according to the case's docket sheet.

A copy of Gregory's motion is not available in the case filed.

Gregory is still listed as the plaintiff's attorney.

The school district is represented by Donald Ohl.

The case is Madison case number 06-L-021.
