A Granite City woman says she suffered severe and permanent injuries after a driver ran through a red light, striking her vehicle.
Janet Young-Jones filed a lawsuit Nov. 9 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Marya A. Wofford.
Young-Jones claims she drove south on North Greenmount Road in O'Fallon and attempted to turn left onto eastbound Route 50 on March 25 when the incident occurred.
At the same time, Wofford drove north on Greenmount Road, intending to drive straight, when she crashed into Young-Jones, according to the complaint.
"The Defendant entered the subject intersection when confronted with a red stop light, whereby striking the Plaintiff's automobile that had entered the intersection on the green arrow," the suit states.
Because of the collision, Young-Jones suffered injuries to her body, neck and back resulting in disability and disfigurement, which have caused her great pain, mental anguish and loss of a normal life. In addition, Young-Jones has lost earnings, has incurred medical costs and has experienced a diminished earning capacity, the complaint says.
Young-Jones blames Wofford for failing to obey the instructions of a traffic signal, for failing to stop her vehicle prior to entering an intersection, for failing to keep her vehicle under proper control and for failing to keep a proper lookout.
Young-Jones is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus court costs.
