A man has filed suit against his former employer, alleging he was terminated after his work place failed to provide accommodations for his post-traumatic stress resulting from an injury.
Paul S. Downey claims he sustained a work-related injury while working for J.F. Electric Inc. on June 27, 2007. As a result of the injury, Downey suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder, according to the complaint filed Nov. 6 in Madison County Circuit Court.
Downey claims J.F. Electric knew about his injury, but failed to provide accommodations for him and terminated him on June 29, 2007.
In his complaint, Downey says he has suffered lost wages, benefits and bonuses and has suffered embarrassment, humiliation, emotional distress and loss of reputation and standing in the community.
J.F. Electric's firing of Downey constitutes a violation of his rights under the Illinois Human Rights Act, according to the complaint.
Downey is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.
