A woman claims three doctors failed to diagnose her with a stroke after they failed to properly interpret a CT scan.

Tracy Hunziker filed a lawsuit Oct. 27 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Dr. Christopher Russell, Cape Radiology Group of Illinois, Dr. Michael Scott, Legatus Emergency Services of Southern Illinois, St. Joseph Memorial Hospital and Dr. Evan Belfer.

Hunziker alleges she went to the emergency room at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Carbondale on Oct. 28, 2007, complaining of a headache, dizziness, numbness and inability to speak.

However, doctors failed to properly interpret a CT scan, causing them to fail to timely diagnose and treat Hunziker's stroke, according to the complaint.

Because of the doctors' actions, Hunziker sustained permanent injuries, suffered permanent pain, mental anguish, disability and disfigurement and incurred medical costs, the suit states. In addition, she was prevented from attending to her usual duties and affairs and lost wages, the complaint says.

In the six-count suit, Hunziker is seeking a judgment of more than $450,000, plus costs.

Samantha S. Unsell of Thomas Q. Keefe Jr. law office in Belleville will be representing her.
