A mechanic claims he sustained neck and spine injuries after working for more than 30 years for CSX Transportation.

David Myers filed a lawsuit Oct. 6 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against CSX Transportation.

Myers claims that throughout his career as a mechanic from 1976 until 2009, he experienced numerous repetitive traumas while repairing CSX's railroad.

In addition to his neck and spine injuries, Myers suffered great pain and mental anguish, lost money, experienced a diminished earning capacity and incurred medical costs, according to the complaint.

Myers blames CSX for a number of negligent acts, including its failure to provide safe tools and proper equipment, its failure to provide proper supervision, its failure to warn Myers of the hazardous conditions in which he was working and its allowance of unsafe practices to become common.

Myers is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

Gregory M. Tobin of Pratt and Tobin in East Alton will be representing him.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-533.
