A woman has filed suit against the driver who she says rear-ended her after he failed to stop at a red light.

Janice M. Donaldson claims she was stopped at a red traffic signal facing southbound on Northgate Industrial Drive at its intersection with Route 3 in Granite City on Feb. 4, 2008, at about 8:22 a.m. when David T. Morgan struck the rear of her vehicle.

As a result of the collision, Donaldson sustained severe and permanent injuries, was hindered from attending to her usual duties and affairs and lost the value of her time, according to the complaint filed Sept. 17 in Madison County Circuit Court. In addition, she suffered great pain and anguish and incurred medical costs, the suit states.

Morgan negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to apply his brakes to avoid a collision, drove too fast, failed to take evasive action to avoid a collision, drove in such a way that injured Donaldson, failed to sound his horn to warn of his impending approach, failed to keep his vehicle under proper control and failed to decrease his speed to avoid a collision, the complaint says. In addition, Donaldson claims Morgan failed to stop in time to avoid a collision and failed to decrease his speed when approaching an intersection.

At the time of the collision, Morgan was working for J.T. Sands Corp., which is also named as a defendant in the lawsuit.

In the two-count suit, Donaldson is seeking an unspecified judgment, plus costs.

She will be represented by James C. Brandenburg and Edmond H. Rees of Brandenburg-Rees and Rees in Chicago.
