Greenmount Road rear-end accident results in suit

A Smithton woman has filed suit against the driver of a vehicle that she says rear-ended her.

Darlene T. Goodwin claims she was driving her 2002 Honda Accord south on North Greenmount Road about 20 feet from its intersection with Lebanon Avenue when Christina M. Leapley's 2006 Volkswagon struck Goodwin's Accord from behind.

Because of the accident, which occurred on Aug. 19, 2007, at about 9:21 p.m., Goodwin suffered severe and permanent damages and incurred medical costs, according to the complaint filed Aug. 6 in St. Clair County Circuit Court. In addition, she lost income and suffered extreme and permanent physical pain and suffering to her head, face, neck, mouth, teeth, shoulders, trunk, abdomen, back, spine, arms, hands, legs and feet, the suit states. Goodwin is disabled, disfigured and is unable to live a normal life, the complaint says.

Goodwin blames Leapley for failing to maintain adequate distance between her vehicle and Goodwin's, for failing to reduce her speed to avoid a collision with Goodwin, for failing to keep a proper lookout, for failing to sound her horn and for failing to keep her vehicle under control.

Goodwin is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just.

She will be represented by Rhonda D. Fiss of The Law Office of Rhonda D. Fiss in Belleville.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-412.
