Couple's visit to home on Friendship Drive results in $100k lawsuit

A Belleville man and his wife have filed suit against another couple, alleging the man was injured because of rotten tree limbs at the couple's home.

Roy and Edwina Wilson say Roy Wilson was invited to Gloria and Willie Wilson's home at 6 Friendship Dr. in Belleville on Sept. 11, 2007.

While on the property, Roy Wilson says the rotten tree limbs caused him to sustain severe and permanent injuries and to suffer great pain and anguish. In addition, he incurred medical costs and lost wages, according to the complaint filed July 16 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

Although they do not specify how Roy Wilson's injuries occurred, Roy and Edwina Wilson say Gloria and Willie Wilson negligently failed to exercise reasonable care to see that the property was reasonably safe, the suit states.

Edwina Wilson says she has been deprived of her husband's companionship and society.

Roy and Edwina Wilson are seeking a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs.

They are represented by Benjamin T. Stephens of Johnston Law Offices in Edwardsville.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-376.
