A woman has filed suit against the driver who she says hit her while she was driving on 22nd Street in East St. Louis and the driver's employer.
Mary O. Crowell says she was driving north on the street on June 25, 2007, at about 11:40 a.m. when Sandra E. May, who was driving east on State Street, collided with her.
Because of the accident, Crowell was made sick, sore, lame and disordered, suffered injuries to the soft tissues of her body and suffered multiple abrasions and contusions to her legs, arms, torso, neck and head, according to the complaint filed June 23 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.
In addition, Crowell has endured pain and suffering, incurred medical costs, suffered disability and disfigurement and endured great nervous shock, the suit states.
Sandra E. May negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, drove too fast, failed to exercise due care, failed to give audible warning, failed to exercise proper caution, failed to properly apply her brakes, failed to keep her vehicle under control and failed to reduce her speed to avoid an accident, the complaint says.
At the time of the accident, Sandra E. May was working for Elward L. May, who is also named as a defendant in the suit.
In the two-count suit, Crowell is seeking a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs.
St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-335.
