A total of 22 new asbestos suits were filed in Madison County Circuit Court during the week of April 27 through May 1.
The following claims were filed:
--Gerard Abbott of Minnesota, a laborer, quality control manager, concrete finisher, block layer, maintenance worker, restaurant manager, home renovator and real estate agent at various locations from 1966 until 2007, claims lung cancer. --Harold L. and Peggy Austin of Arkansas claim Harold L. Austin developed lung cancer after his work from 1958 until 1992 as a foreman at Industrial Insulation. --Gary and Theresa Brown of Indiana claim Gary Brown developed lung cancer after his work as a laborer, truck driver and UPS driver at various locations throughout Indiana and Ohio from the 1950s until 1994. --Giulio and Leonarda Cardella of Arizona claim Giulio Cardella developed mesothelioma after his work from 1968 until 1992 for Mormino and Sons Garden Center, the County of Maricopa comptroller and GC Plumbing. --Charles and Mariam Carver claim Charles Carver developed mesothelioma after his work for Globe American Corporation, U.S. Navy and Chrysler Corporation from 1941 until 1976. --Joe Castle of Kentucky claims his recently deceased wife, Mary Castle, died of mesothelioma. He says she came into contact with asbestos fibers through clothing he would wear home from his work as a carpenter, strip miner and laborer at various locations throughout Kentucky. --Nileen Copeman of Michigan, a waitress and laborer from 1970 until 2004, claims mesothelioma. Copeman says she was also exposed to asbestos fibers through her husband, who worked from 1958 until 2004 as a laborer, assembly worker, owner and operator. Her father, who worked as a lineman and division forestry supervisor from 1944 until 1976, would also bring asbestos fibers home on his clothing, according to the complaint. --Walter Counts of Missouri, a laborer, truck and tractor driver, supply motor operator and hoist operator at various locations throughout Illinois and Missouri from 1957 until 1988 claims mesothelioma. --Judith Ann Crum claims mesothelioma on behalf of her recently deceased husband, Don Lewis Crum, who worked as a machinist, forestman, maintenance personnel, Wal-Mart greeter, drywaller and roofer from 1960 until 2008. Judith Ann Crum says her deceased husband was also secondarily exposed to asbestos fibers through his father, Alfred Crum. Judith Ann Crum is represented by Randy L. --Sue Dyer of Minnesota claims her recently deceased husband, Steven Dyer, developed lung cancer after his work from 1965 until 2005 as a maintenance worker, installer, heavy equipment operator, metal framer, cabinet assembler and fireman at various locations. --Delois Fleming of Tennessee claims her recently deceased son, Christopher Fleming, developed mesothelioma after his work as a clerk, driver and laborer from 1994 until 2008. Delois Fleming says her son was also secondarily exposed to asbestos fibers through his father, who worked from 1977 until 1999 as a lab worker at Bridgestone/Firestone. --Leonard and Joyce Marie Jansen claim Leonard Jansen developed malignant mesothelioma after his work repairing AC and heating systems and replacing gaskets and serviced circulating pumps on cooling towers. He also says he worked on residential gravity sections used to heat homes and on gas-fired or forced air furnaces and helped to construct Drury Hotels from the 1960s until the 1980s. --John W. Johnson of Texas, a laborer, grinder and maintenance man from 1965 until 1997, claims lung cancer. --Ronald Mitchem Sr. and Karen Mitchem claim Ronald Mitchem Sr. developed mesothelioma after his work performing various jobs within the core room of the foundry, performing final inspections of finished tanks, working as a maintenance supervisor, performing auto mechanic work and performing residential construction work from 1980 through the 1990s. --Larry Stewart claims mesothelioma on behalf of his recently deceased mother, Lora Stewart, who worked from 1958 until 1967 as a welder at various locations. She was also exposed to asbestos fibers through her relative, William Stewart, who worked from 1947 until 1982 as a heating and air conditioning technician and sheet metal worker at various locations, according to the complaint. --Carol Stout of Missouri claims her recently deceased husband, Carlos Stout, developed lung cancer after his work at Perfection Bakeries from 1942 until 1942, in the U.S. Navy from 1943 until 1947 and on the annealing furnace in 1948. Carol Stout says her husband also worked as a carpenter's helper in 1943, a laborer in 1947, assembler from 1948 until 1952 and trim repairman from 1952 until 1972. --Iris E. Williams of Michigan, a teacher from 1968 until 1999, claims mesothelioma.
