Driver and company sued over injuries sustained in accident

A woman is suing a man and a company over injuries she says she sustained during a collision.

Krista Joy Cowan filed suit April 3 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Michael P. Mahoney and Charles E. Mahoney Co.

Cowan says she was driving a 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse west in the 1400 block of Lebanon Avenue near its intersection with Grove Road in Belleville on Aug. 21 when Mahoney, who was driving a vehicle for Charles E. Mahoney Co. in the same direction, struck her.

Because of the collision, Cowan sustained serious injuries to her back, incurred medical costs and experienced great pain and mental anguish, she says. She also claims she missed numerous working days.

Mahoney failed to keep his vehicle under proper control, failed to keep a proper look out, drove too fast for the circumstances, failed to reduce his speed and rear-ended Cowan, according to the complaint.

In the two-count suit, Cowan is seeking a judgment in excess of $100,000, plus costs.

Gary A. Mack of the Law Offices of Gary A. Mack in Belleville will be representing her.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-171.
