Route 143 accident is subject of suit

A Madison County man has filed suit against a Madison County woman, alleging he was injured after a collision.

Douglas D. Davis says he was stopped in the westbound lane of Illinois Route 143 at its intersection with Bender Road and waiting for traffic to turn left on Sept. 7, 2007, at about 5:30 p.m. when Evelyn Little-Mitchell drove her vehicle into the back of Davis'.

The Madison County Sheriff's Office, who investigated the crash, issued a ticket to Little-Mitchell for failure to reduce her speed, according to the complaint filed April 1 in Madison County Circuit Court.

Little-Mitchell pled guilty to the ticket, the complaint says.

Because of the collision, Davis claims he sustained diverse and numerous injuries, which have caused him pain and suffering, incurred medical costs and lost earnings.

Little-Mitchell was negligent by failing to see Davis' vehicle and by failing to reduce her speed to avoid a collision, according to the complaint.

Davis is seeking a judgment in excess of $50,000, plus costs.

He will be represented by Martin J. Mengarelli of Andrews and Mengarelli in Granite City.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-332.
