A man has filed suit against Columbia Convalescent Center, alleging his relative died after falling at the center.
Rodney Baker claims Audrey Baker lived at the center from March 17, 2001, until March 29.
While at the center, Audrey Baker fell and hit her head in March, according to the complaint filed Feb. 4 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.
Because of her fall, Audrey Baker suffered a sub-dural hematoma that was left untreated, the suit states.
The untreated hematoma resulted in Audrey Baker's death on April 5, Rodney Baker alleges.
Columbia Convalescent Center was negligent by failing to provide safe transfer activities to Audrey Baker, by failing to protect her safety, by failing to evaluate her to make sure she received adequate supervision and assistance, by failing to provide adequate and properly supervised care and by failing to protect her from neglect, according to the complaint.
The center also negligently failed to provide necessary treatment and services to maintain Audrey Baker in the highest practicable level of functioning, failed to provide 24-hour nursing services to meet her needs, failed to have 24-hour nursing services from enough qualified nursing personnel to meet the nursing need of center residents and failed to protect Audrey Baker from falling, the suit states.
In the two-count suit, Rodney Baker is seeking a judgment in excess of $100,000, plus costs.
