A woman claims she was injured after a man struck the side of the Freightliner bus she was driving.
Janie Smith was driving the bus north on Range Street in Cahokia on Feb. 1, 2007, and proceeding through its intersection with St. Helena Street, when Ricardo Minor, who was driving a 1996 Jeep Cherokee west on St. Helena Street, proceeded through the stop sign and struck Smith, according to the complaint filed Jan. 29 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.
Because of the accident, Smith's muscles, ligaments, membranes, nerves, blood vessels and tissues were sprained, torn, cut or bruised and she became sick, sore, lame and disordered, the suit states.
She also claims she suffered great pain and anguish, received elbow, arm, shoulder, fingers, knees, ankle and neck injuries, suffers from headaches, incurred medical expenses, suffered internal derangement and has been prevented from her normal activities.
Minor was negligent by failing to keep his vehicle under control, by failing to see Smith's vehicle, by failing to reduce his speed to avoid a collision, by failing to drive at a reasonable speed, by failing to yield the right-of-way and by failing to obey all traffic control devices, according to the complaint.
Smith is seeking a judgment in excess of $50,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just.
