Strive Group failed to keep workplace safe, former contractor says

Robert Wahlig has filed suit against The Strive Group, alleging he was injured after he slipped and fell while working for the company.

Wahlig was a contractor for the The Strive Group who assisted in completing the manufacturing and fulfillment contracts within property located at 5628 Inner Park Drive in Edwardsville, according to the complaint filed Dec. 26 in Madison County Circuit Court.

While Wahlig was on a pallet attempting to load a semi-completed display onto rollers, the unsecured rollers caused the pallet to shift and begin to roll, the suit states.

In turn, that caused Wahlig to slip and fall on the slippery floor, he claims.

Because of his fall, Wahlig was made sick, sore, lame, disordered and disabled and received injuries to his left hip, including a fractured left femur requiring a left hip replacement, and to his left leg, according to the complaint.

He also incurred medical costs, suffered a disability, experienced pain and suffering and lost money because of lost wages, the suit states.

The Strive Group was negligent because it failed to provide a good, safe and proper place for Wahlig to use, occupy and walk while loading pallets, allowed the premises to become and remain in an unsafe and dangerous condition that it should have known existed and failed to manage, inspect, clean and maintain the premises and equipment to make sure it was in good condition, Wahlig claims.

In addition, the company negligently failed to warn Wahlig of the unsafe condition of the premises and the equipment, according to the complaint.

Wahlig is seeking a judgment in excess of $50,000, plus costs.

He is represented by Thomas C. Rich and Jennifer L. Barbieri of Fairview Heights.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 08-L-1220.
