Bike rider sues Grand Prix driver for injuries

A St. Clair County man has filed suit against a St. Clair County woman, claiming he was seriously injured after he was struck by a car while riding on his bike.

David Stricker was riding his bike on the south walk on West Highway 50 in O'Fallon on Aug. 28 when Shannon Long, who was driving her 1996 Pontiac Grand Prix east onto the same road from a driveway, struck him, according to the complaint filed Oct. 24 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

In addition to his injuries, Stricker suffered permanent pain, mental anguish, disfigurement and has incurred substantial medical expenses, the suit states.

In addition, Stricker claims he has been prevented from attending to his usual affairs and has lost wages.

Long was negligent because she failed to keep her vehicle under control and failed to keep a proper lookout, according to the complaint.

Stricker is seeking a judgment in excess of $75,000, plus costs.

Thomas Q. Keefe, Jr., of Belleville will be representing him.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 08-L-539.
