Millstadt couple sues over auto accident

A Millstadt couple has filed suit against a Dupo man, alleging they were seriously injured after his vehicle collided with their car.

Edward D. and Ruth J. Haas were driving west on Illinois Route 158 at Triple Lakes Road in Millstadt on Feb. 29 when Nathan L. Pelate, who was driving east on the same road, collided with them, according to the complaint filed Oct. 16 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

Because of the accident, the Haases have sustained permanent, severe, painful and disabling injuries and have suffered grievous pain and mental anguish, the suit states.

The couple also claims they have become sick, sore, lame, disordered and disabled and have incurred substantial medical costs.

Pelate was negligent because he failed to yield the right of way to oncoming traffic, failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to stop to avoid a collision, improperly used the westbound lanes and operated his vehicle in an improper and careless manner, according to the complain.

In the two-count suit, the Haases seek a judgment in excess of $100,000, plus costs.

They are represented by Mathis, Marifian, Richter and Grandy of Belleville.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 08-L-518.
