Walgreen dispensed wrong medication, says wrongful death complaint

Walgreen in Belleville

Jacqueline Porter of Belleville claims her husband Nathan Porter died as a result of receiving the wrong medication from a Walgreen pharmacy on Sept. 30, 2006.

According to a suit filed May 1 in St. Clair County Circuit Court, the pharmacy located at 515 Carlyle Ave. in Belleville "negligently and carelessly filled the Decedent's prescription with the wrong medication."

Jacqueline Porter claims her husband was "prescribed glimeperide and was caused to go into a coma, causing permanent injuries and his ultimate death."

Glimeperide is a type 2 diabetes medication that can be prescribed to help lower blood sugar levels.

Represented by Joseph A. Bartholomew of Cook, Ysursa, Bartholomew, Brauer & Shevlin of Belleville, Porter is seeking in excess of $50,000 in damages plus costs of the suit.

"That the defendant, Walgreen Company, failed to exercise reasonable care customarily provided in the health care industry...," the complaint states.
