Privacy issues put Lakin class actions into twilight zone

Lakin Law Firm class actions against insurers Liberty Mutual and Travelers have drifted to a twilight zone where attorneys know what happens and regular folks don't.

The insurers have shared so much confidential information with the Lakins that their attorneys can't argue at hearings without placing privacy rights in jeopardy.

On April 30, Circuit Judge Daniel Stack suspended a hearing in the Travelers case after both sides asked him to exclude a member of the press from a slide show.

Stack resumed the hearing after attorneys pulled some of the slides.

The previous week, Circuit Judge Barbara Crowder ordered a 30 day seal on a transcript of a hearing in the Liberty Mutual case.

In an interview she said both sides wanted to review the transcript for confidential information before placing it on the record.
