Sheila Sydnor of Collinsville filed suit against Bourbon Street Bar & Grill in Granite City and John Robbers alleging a dog on the property knocked her to the ground causing serious injuries.
According to the suit filed March 13 in Madison County Circuit Court, Sydnor claims she was lawfully on the defendants' property on Jan. 10, when a dog at the restaurant caused her to trip and fall. Sydnor claims she sustained serious and permanent injuries to her thumb and ulnar collateral ligament.
She claims the Illinois Animal Control Act states that any person who is attacked or injured by a dog may hold the animal's owner liable for the full amount of the injuries sustained.
Seeking damages in excess of $100,000, Sydnor also claims the defendants were negligent by permitting a dog to be present in its restaurant in violation of the Illinois Department of Public Health Food Services Sanitation Code, by permitting a dog to roam the restaurant in such a matter to pose a hazard to patrons and failed to warn patrons returning from the restroom that the dog positioned himself around the corner from the restroom hallway.
She is represented by Matthew Chapman of Granite City.
The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Andy Matoesian.
