Gateway Regional Medical Center

The estate of Jill Joshu filed a wrongful death complaint against Gateway Regional Medical Center in Madison County Circuit Court Feb. 28, alleging the hospital deviated from the acceptable standard of care when treating Joshu.

According to the complaint, Joshu was admitted at Gateway from March 1, 2006 and March 6, 2006.

"During the course of Joshu's hospitalization at Gateway, she was caused to suffer severe injuries and degradation of her health that ultimately led to her death," the complaint states.

The estate alleges Gateway failed to provide proper care and treatment by negligently failing to notify health care professionals of a critical lab value on the morning of her death, failed to notify a physician that her urine output had ceased, ordered potassium and a medication called Captopril for Joshu while she was in a hyperkalemic state and failed to properly supervise the medical services being given to Joshu.

The estate claims her death on March 6, 2006, has deprived Joshu's next of kin of the support, society, guidance, companionship and happiness she provided.

Represented by Kevin Dawson of Belleville, Joshu's estate is seeking damages in excess of $50,000, plus costs.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Andy Matoesian.
