The estate of Joann Jungk filed a four count wrongful death suit against Saint Anthony's Health Center in Madison County Circuit Court Sept. 20, seeking damages in excess of $200,000 to compensate her children for their grief, sorrow and mental suffering.

According to the complaint, Jungk was being treated for acute gallbladder pancreatitis by co-defendant Salvador Lobianco, M.D., who was employed by Saint Anthony's.

Lobianco treated her from Sept. 25, 2005 until her death on Dec. 26, 2005.

The estate claims that Saint Anthony's and Lobianco deviated from the standard of care of a reasonable prudent professional by negligently and carelessly failing to monitor Jungk's medical condition.

Her estate also claims the defendants failed to call in other specialists to provide Jungk care and failed to timely transfer her to a tertiary hospital.

Jungk's estate claims as a result of her severe complications she underwent extensive medical treatment, endured conscious pain and suffering including emotional distress, incurred medical expenses, became disabled and suffered a loss of enjoyment of life's pleasures.

Robert Schmeider of Pratt & Tobin represents the estate.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Nicholas Byron.
