A woman who fell while roller skating at the Edwardsville YMCA filed a personal injury suit in Madison County Circuit Court June 25, seeking damages in excess of $50,000 for injuries she allegedly received.
Rhoda Hughes claims she was roller skating on May 6, 2006, when she fell and sustained a serious and permanent injury.
According to Hughes, YMCA failed to control rowdy and speeding skaters at the facility who collided with her and caused her to fall, failed to warn of the unruly skaters and failed to have rules and regulations to demark fast skaters from the general public.
Hughes claims she was shoved and struck causing her ankle to contact the skating surface and her body to fall on her ankle causing a fracture and permanent damage to her ankle.
She also claims she sustained a knee injury, incurred medical expenses, experienced pain and suffering with disability and loss of a normal life.
Hughes is represented by Robert Wilson of Granite City.
The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Andy Matoesian.
