Bad pedicure deprives woman of life's pleasures, suit claims

A Madison County woman claims that injuries she sustained during a pedicure have deprived her of the normal pleasures of life.

According to a Madison County personal injury suit, Cheryl Reader claims an employee of Diamond Nails in Wood River scraped the bottom of her foot in such a fashion that it produced an open wound and bleeding of the right foot. The incident took place March 31, 2005.

Reader is seeking in excess of $50,000 in damages.

She claims Diamond Nails failed to provide pedicure services to her in a safe manner, failed to properly sterilize and/or sanitize the equipment and utensils, failed to provide proper first aid to the wound immediately and failed to place a bandage on the wound.

Diamond Nails allegedly caused Reader to sustain severe and permanent injuries to her right foot, including the bones, soft tissues, skin, muscles, tendons and nerves of the foot and toes, the suit states.

Reader claims she has become obligated for medical expenses, has lost and will continue to lose large sums of money from her usual gainful employment and has sustained pain and suffering in the past and is reasonably certain to experience pain and suffering in the future.

She also claims her injuries have caused a permanent disfigurement and disability.

Reader is represented by Terrence V. O'Leary of Granite City.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Andy Matoesian.
