Texarkana federal courthouse

Six weeks after attorneys in federal suits from seven districts agreed to centralize their suits at Texarkana, Texas, clerks at the Texarkana courthouse knew nothing of it.

The suits accuse Mortgage Electronic Registration System of violating the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act.

Attorneys in the suits reserved time to argue over Texarkana in a Nov. 30 session of the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation in St. Louis, but Texarkana's foes gave in at the last minute.

Plaintiff attorney Robert Bonsignore of Medford, Mass., told the Panel that everyone worked together and cooperated. He said the defense also agreed.

Defense attorney Martin Loring of Kansas City, Missouri, said, "We agree completely."

Panel Chief William Hodges said, "Even so, we will not rule from the bench. I will take it under submission, but we appreciate your position."

As of Jan. 10 no notice had reached Texarkana.
