Retired orthopedic surgeon Donald Serot, M.D. is being sued by a former patient claiming a left knee replacement was negligently performed.
Robert A. Thompson filed suit in St. Clair County Circuit Court Nov. 29 claiming Serot improperly positioned the tibial component of his knee replacement on April 5, 2005.
Seeking in excess of $50,000 in damages, Thompson also claims Serot improperly performed the tibial cut during the surgery. He is represented by John T. Papa of Callis, Papa, Hale, Szewczyk & Danzinger of Granite City.
Serot retired in July 2005 citing the high cost of obtaining medical malpractice insurance.
Thompson claims he suffered and will continue to suffer extreme pain, has been made disabled and lost his normal enjoyment of life, has lost and will continue to lose wages and has expended and will continue to expend large sums of money endeavoring to be cured of his said injuries including revision surgery to his left knee.
