Ford blamed for spinal injuries in federal suit

Ford Model 3000

A Clinton County man has filed suit against Ford Motor Co. in federal court claiming a Model 3000 tractor rolled over onto him, causing disabling spinal injuries.

Anthony Lacey claims Ford is negligent for marketing the tractor without a Rollover Protection System.

"Defendant did not make a Rollover Protection System standard equipment on the Ford Model 3000 tractor when it knew that consumers were not choosing the Rollover Protection System as optional equipment and/or that its dealers were not adequately explaining the benefits..., " the complaint states.

Lacey was injured June 26.

The suit filed Oct. 3 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois also claims Ford did not adequately warn consumers of the tractor's propensity to roll over.

Represented by William P. Gavin of Belleville, Lacey is seeking in excess of $150,000 in damages for pain, disability, disfigurement, anguish and loss of enjoyment of life, as well as for medical expenses and the loss of income.
