The intersection of Martin Luther King Drive and North 9th Street in East St. Louis
The city of East St. Louis is being sued for failure to maintain traffic signals at the intersection of Martin Luther King Drive and North 9th Street.
Plaintiffs Shannon and Rhoda McKissick claim they were struck broadside by another vehicle as a result of a non-working signal light on Oct. 2, 2005.
Represented by Ronald A. Roth of Granite City, the McKissicks each seek in excess of $50,000 for severe and permanent injuries sustained in the crash.
Shannon McKissick claims he suffered head, shoulder and arm injuries, as well as headaches.
Rhoda McKissick claims face, neck, elbow and knee injuries.
The accident occurred as plaintiffs were traveling southbound on North 9th Street in a 1990 Dodge Ram 150. At the intersection of Martin Luther King Drive they were struck by Jeffrey D. Harbaugh's westbound vehicle, a 2005 GMC Sierra.
Harbaugh is not named in the suit.
"Defendant failed to act on its knowledge that the signal lights at said intersection were not in proper working order," the complaint states.
