Madison County Associate Judge Barbara Crowder will teach attorneys about the Illinois Supreme Court's new custody rules fron 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 17 at the Holiday Inn in Collinsville.

Sponsored by the Illinois State Bar Association's Family Law Section and co-sponsored by the ISBA's Bench and Bar Secion Council, the class is one of several being offered over a two-day period on Aug. 17-18.

The Supreme Court's new rules require:

  • that parents in child custody cases take a class to help them learn how to minimize the impact of legal proceedings on their children;
  • pre-trial mediation to minimize the number of cases taken to trial;
  • continuing education for lawyers who practice family law; and
  • mediation training for family court judges.

    Associate Judge Nelson Metz will be in a panel discussion on the subject of report writing for the court on Friday, Aug. 18 from 3:30 to 4 p.m.
