Schatze's, driver and insurer sued over accident

A woman who claims her left leg was pinned to a metal pole by a pickup truck in the parking lot of a popular Belleville bar, filed suit in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

Robyn Wagner claims that on May 5, she was leaving Schatze's bar when Robert Giglotto, who had been drinking for several hours, backed his vehicle into her as she was walking to her car.

Wagner is suing the bar, Giglotto, and his insurance company, AIG, seeking damages in excess of $225,000.

She claims Giglotto operated hid vehicle while drunk, failed to keep a lookout, failed to yield to a pedestrian and drove his vehicle in reckless manner by speeding in a parking lot where people were standing and walking.

She claims Schatze's knew Giglotto was intoxicated and in a dangerous condition to himself and others, but failed to stop serving him alcoholic beverages.

Wagner claims Giglotto's insurance company, AIG, notified her that the claim Giglotto submitted was denied and refused to pay her for damages.

Giglotto has been in jail since the accident.

According to the complaint, Wagner suffered a severe and extensive laceration to her left thigh and a crush injury to her left leg, including fracture of the left leg and significant muscle, tendon and ligament damage.

She claims she was required to undergo multiple surgeries for repair of her leg, including additional skin graphs and plastic surgery.

Wagner claims she was unable to walk for a lengthy period, will require additional surgery, lost wages and has substantial pain and suffering plus reduced range of motion as a result of her injuries.

She is represented by Heidi Leopold of St. Louis.
