Women claim employer paid men more

By Ann Knef | Apr 25, 2006

Six area women have filed wage discrimination lawsuits against LPG Ambulance Services of Illinois and Mission Care of Illinois in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

Jana Sommers, Mary Lipe, Stephanie Robison, Karen Danforth, Rachel Eversole and Michelle White claim they were compensated less than their male counterparts for doing substantially the same work in the complaint filed April 20.

Represented by Joseph A. Bartholomew of Cook, Ysursa, Bartholomew, Brauer & Shevlin of Belleville, the women each seek excess of $50,000 from the defendants, plus costs of the suit.

The suit does not describe the duties performed by the femal employees.

The plaintiffs claim the businesses violated the Minimum Wage Act
