Belleville man sues attackers

A Belleville man who suffered knife wounds to his face and hand is suing his attackers in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

Herbert Jones claims he was assaulted by Jeffrey Miliken and Faith Meyers (also known as Moran) early in the morning of Feb. 22, 2004.

In a civil complaint filed Feb. 21, Jones claims the pair rang his doorbell at apprioximately 12:15 a.m. They started yelling threats and making threatening gestures toward him, according to Jones.

Jones, who is representing himself, claims Miliken bumped into him and grabbed him, resulting in punches being thrown and Miliken falling to the ground.

As soon as Miliken composed himself, he retrieved a knife from his car and came back to the house and began attacking Jones with it, the complaint states.

Jones claims he sustained a knife wound above the left eye, on the palm of his right hand, to the fingers of his left hand and to the base of his neck on the right rear side.

"Defendant Meyers' verbal threats and threatening gestures put Jones in fear of his life and safety, and he suffered great shame and humiliation and injury to his dignity and feelings," the complaint states.

Jones claims the alleged willful and malicious assault has caused pain and suffering, a permanent disfigurement, lost wages and medical expenses.

He is seeking damages against Meyers and Miliken, jointly and severally, in excess of $50,000, and for actual hospital, medical and therapeutic bills and loss of income.

The complaint does not state where the attack took place, however, Jones lists an address of 16 South 20th St. in Belleville. He is representing himself in the case.
