Anderson Hospital

Patrick Zimmerman, M.D. and Anderson Hospital in Maryville were slapped with a medical malpractice suit Aug. 16 in Madison County Circuit Court.

Robin Murphy claims that on March 1, 2004, the defendants negligently failed to timely provide proper assessment for skin integrity and implement appropriate measures to prevent decubitus ulceration during her hospitalization.

Murphy also claims she was carelessly discharged on March 12, 2004, when the defendants knew, or should have known, she would not have appropriate help at home to care for her illness.

According to the complaint, Murphy suffered permanent injury to her legs and lower extremities, as well as to the nerves of the surrounding structures, suffered permanent pain, mental anguish, disability and disfigurement.

She also claims she has been prevented from attending to her usual affairs and duties, lost wages and has became liable for large amounts of medical expenses.

Represented by Thomas Keefe of Belleville, Murphy is seeking at least $225,000 in damages from Anderson and Zimmerman. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Nicholas Byron.

Anderson Hospital also was named in a suit by a 64-year-old woman seeking at least $50,000 in damages alleging she tripped on an electrical cord in her hospital room.

Janice Hedin filed suit Aug. 17, alleging Anderson negligently permitted its premises to become and remain in a dangerous condition.

Hedin claims that on Aug. 27, 2003, she was in a weakened and depressed physical and mental state from her surgery four days prior. While packing her clothes after being discharged, she tripped on an electrical cord in her room.

Hedin claims Anderson failed to remove medical equipment from her room after unplugging it, failed to warn her of the dangerous condition of her room, and failed to assist her in her preparation for discharge.

According to the complaint, Hedin suffered multiple fractures to her pelvis, pain and suffering, and has become liable for medical expenses.

Hedin is represented by Pat Ducey of St. Louis. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Dan Stack.
