Thimerosol, vaccine debate rages on

To the editor:

After reading your article (Parents claim sons poisoned by mercury in suits, July 18), it is necessary to inform you that the Denmark study showed a significant increase in the rate of autism after thimerosal was removed from vaccines there.

Prior to the removal of thimerosal, only those autistics who were hospitalized (which is only 20 percent of the autistic population, at best) were actually counted in the Center for Disease Control's (CDC) study.

After thimerosal's removal, the registry was editied to include all children who showed neurological damage (which includes at least 80 percent of the autistic population).

The CDC didn't mention this convenient transition. I was a TV-news reporter for years, and I now use my research skills to try to get to the bottom of the vaccine thimerosal debate.

When you compare the studies of both sides and do a little research as to their validity, you'll find out some very scary things. Arm yourself with a little more knowlege, and try to uncover the truth yourself, with an objective mind. You could help many people.
