TJ Maxx targeted for 'unnatural' slip and fall

A woman who allegedly tripped on an “unnatural substance” at clothing retailer TJ Maxx in Fairview Heights filed suit in St. Clair County Circuit Court seeking damages in excess of $50,000.

In a suit filed June 16, Felicity Rixmann of Nashville claims she slipped and fell on a substance that was spilled in the aisle while she was shopping on May 20, 2004.

According to Rixmann, TJ Maxx failed in its duty to maintain its property by allowing a substance to be spilled on the floor without cleaning it up and failed to warn Rixmann of the spilled substance.

Rixmann claims as a result of the fall she suffered extensive injuries to her head, body, and limbs, both internally and externally, suffered a torn rotator cuff, suffered injuries to the soft tissues of the cervical shoulder, experienced pain and suffering, and has spent money for medical treatment.

Rixmann is represented by James Williams of Williams, Caponi & Associates of Belleville.

TJX Companies, the parent company of TJ Maxx, operates more than 2,400 stores internationally, including T.J. Maxx, HomeGoods, Marshalls, A.J. Wright, and Bob's Stores.
