Madison County jury hits Ford for $43 million verdict

A Madison County jury has returned with a verdict of $43 million for the family of a man burned to death after a speeding woman rammed into his Lincoln Town Car and it burst into flames

The fiery crash on I-270 took place in July 2003.

John Jablonski was represented by the Lakin Law Firm of East Alton. The trial lasted a little more than two weeks.

After deliberating for 4 hours a jury returned the following damages:

For John Jablonski:

  • $67,715.20 for medical expenses
  • $500,000 for disfigurment and disability
  • $1,000,000 for pain and suffering
  • $3,500,000 for loss of society

    Total $5,067,715.20

    For Dora Jablonski:

  • $1,700,000 for medical care (past and future)
  • $1,900,000 for medical assistance (past and future)
  • $6,500,000 for disabilty
  • $6,500,000 for pain and suffering
  • $6,500,000 for disfigurment

    Total: $23,100,000

    Punitive Damages: $15,000,000

    Grand Total: $43,167,715.20

    Attorney Bradley Lakin had asked for $10 million each for disability, pain and suffering and disfigurment.

    According to courthouse observers the Jablonski family appeared thrilled and elated.

    Earlier today outside the courthouse, a Jablonski family member told The Record that they were "lucky" to have found Lakin to take their case.
