Brad Ringhofer, M.D.

Three new physicians were added to the board of directors of the state's largest medical liability insurer, ISMIE Mutual Insurance Company, including Metro-East internist Brad Ringhofer, M.D.

During the company’s annual meeting recently in Springfield, Proctor Anderson, M.D. and Merita R.C. Tan, M.D., of Chicago also became new board members. Five physicians were re-elected to serve an additional term: Peter A. Brusca, M.D., Carol Stream; Theodore M. Kanellakes, M.D., Joliet; William E. Kobler, M.D., Rockford; Walter W. Whisler, M.D., Chicago and Phillip W. Johnson, M.D., Litchfield.

ISMIE’s Board of Directors is comprised of 21 physician policyholders representing diversity in specialty, geographic location, practice type, age, gender and length of professional service.

“ISMIE’s recommended slate was overwhelmingly elected by over a four-to-one margin. We are buoyed by our policyholders’ confidence in ISMIE,” said Harold L. Jensen, M.D., ISMIE chairman.

This year’s ballot included the eight candidates put forth by ISMIE’s physician nominating committee as well as five independent candidates.

ISMIE’s Board of Directors also voted to re-elect Jensen to serve as its chairman. Brusca was re-elected vice-chairman, and Walter Whisler, M.D. was re-elected ISMIE’s secretary-treasurer.

“I am excited that we are adding new talent to the leadership of ISMIE,” said Jensen. “We need a diverse mix of experience to represent policyholders and survive our state’s hostile legal climate."
