Alton Memorial Hospital

Mary Ann Edelen, who was hit in the head by a security gate exiting the cafeteria at Alton Memorial Hospital, filed the 300th Civil Law case in 2005 in Madison County Circuit Court.

Edelen claims that on May 15, 2004, she was leaving the cafeteria when a security gate struck her in the head with "great force and violence," requiring an immediate visit to the emergency room.

According to the suit, Alton Memorial failed to warn her the gate was partially down just prior to the incident and that the gate was being lowered at the time of the incident.

“The defective condition of the exit area was in no way open and obvious to Edelen,” the complaint states.

Edelen claims that as a result of the incident she sustained severe and permanent injuries to her head, back, neck, and shoulders and has suffered great pain and mental anguish, along with medical-related expenses.

The suit claims Edelen will be unable to perform her usual activities in the future.

Edelen is represented by Alton attorney Michael Glisson of Williamson, Webster, Falb, & Glisson. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Daniel Stack.
