Bunker Hill residents sue Laidlaw for $200k

A Laidlaw bus drops students off at Moye Elementary School

Bunker Hill residents Jason and Gary Gan filed a personal injury suit March 23 in Madison County Circuit Court against Laidlaw Transit and one of its drivers, Shelley McKinney, over an accident that occurred in Maryville.

Jason Gan, who was driving a 1983 Chevrolet S10 pick up truck, claims McKinney failed to stop at a stop sign on Route 162 at the intersection of Nottingham Estates Drive and violently collided with his truck.

Gan also claims McKinney failed to decrease the speed of the bus, failed to keep a proper lookout ahead for other vehicles and failed to stop, swerve, or take other evasive action to avoid a collision.

He claims he suffered severe, permanent, and disabling injuries to his back, knees, and left shoulder, and sustained nerve tissue and tendon damage.

Passenger Gary Gan claims he suffered severe and permanent injuries to his neck, back, chest and ribs, right arm, both wrists, and nerve tissue and tendon damage.

Both of the Gans claim they suffer from great physical pain and suffering, medical and hospital expense, and both lost wages they otherwise would have earned.

Represented by Mary Massa of Granite City, the Gans are seeking at least $200,000 in damages which would fairly compensate them for their injuries, plus all costs of the suit.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge George Moran.
