Belleville Memorial Hospital

The executor of the estate of a woman who died on Sept. 23, 2004, filed a medical malpractice complaint against Belleville Memorial Hospital on March 16 in the Circuit Court for the 20th Circuit.

Lillie Brown claims on March 16, 2003, while providing medical
treatment to Jacquelyn Pickett, Memorial "deviated from the requisite standard of care by failing to appreciate the signs and symptoms of an impending stroke," according to the suit.

Brown also claims Memorial failed to timely obtain appropriate medical care and failed to identify that Pickett required intensive care.

According to the complaint, Pickett suffered a stroke due to Memorial's negligence. The hospital was also responsible for Picket's pain and suffering between March 16, 2003, until the time of her death on Sept. 23, 2004.

Brown is seeking a judgment in excess of $50,000 plus all costs of the suit.

Brown also lists Basga Bernard, M.D. and Richard Fernandez, M.D. as respondents in discovery claiming they have information essential to the determination of who should be properly be named as additional defendants in this case.

Brown is represented by Staci Yandle of the Rex Carr Law Firm of East St. Louis.
