A Kentucky car dealership and its employee were sued in Madison County Circuit Court Jan. 13 seeking damages in excess of $100,000, stemming from a car accident in Staunton on April 3, 2004.

Patricia Varwig alleges that Arthur Whitton was operating a car owned by Park Avenue of Paducah, Ken., when he collided with her on Ranken Road in Staunton in Macoupin County.

Varwig claims that Whitton was driving the vehicle at an excessive speed without regard to the conditions of the roadway, failed to keep a proper lookout for other vehicles traveling on the roadway, and failed to reduce his speed to avoid an accident.

As a result of those acts, Varwig claims that she injured the bones, ligaments, nerves, muscles and disks of her neck, shoulders, back and body, and they were also greatly bruised, crushed, ruptured and displaced.

According to the suit, Varwig claims she has been hindered and prevented from attending to her usual duties and affairs, and has and will continue to be liable for large sums of money for hospital and medical treatment to become healed and cured of her injuries.

Varwig is represented by Joseph Hoefert of Alton, and John Long of Troy. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Nicholas Byron.
