Madison County plaintiff's attorney Thomas Maag has moved to drop a civil lawsuit he filed last month against a former campaign staffer for Illinois Supreme Court Justice Lloyd Karmeier.
Maag, son of the man Karmeier defeated to win election to the Court, Democrat Gordon Maag, filed the motion to dismiss the case on Dec. 23.
The lawsuit charges Steve Tomaszewski with "trespassing" and "slander of title," alleging that on three occasions the defendant placed Republican political signs on land Maag owns at Bluff Road and Main Street in Collinsville.
Maag also claimed that Tomaszewski issued press releases and told an "unknown blond haired white male" that Maag was removing the signs and did not own the land, damaging his reputation.
Maag's lawsuit was originally filed in Madison County Circuit Court on Nov. 10, later moved to Sangamon County's Seventh Circuit and assigned to Judge Leo Zappa.
Tomaszewski, currently spokesman for U.S. Rep. John Shimkus (R-Collinsville), told The Record that he had been informed that a motion to dismiss the case was filed.
