Passenger sues driver over Mount Vernon accident

A passenger in a vehicle involved in a crash has sued the driver, citing negligence.

Sheila Reed filed a lawsuit April 14 in Madison County Circuit Court against Leah R. Sika, citing negligence in a 2014 auto accident.

According to the complaint, on Feb. 7, 2014, Reed was a passenger in an car being driver by Sika, of Mount Vernon, when she caused an accident with another vehicle in Mount Vernon. The suit states Sika ignored a stop sign, didn't keep a proper lookout,drove distractedly, failed to apply her brakes and yield to the other vehicle and stop at the stop sign.

These failures, the suit states, resulted in Reed suffering internal and external injuries, disability and disfigurement, pain and suffering and the loss of future earnings.

Reed seeks damages in excess of $50,000, plus costs. She is represented by attorney Gregory M. Tobin of Pratt and Tobin in East Alton.
