The relative of a woman living at an Alton nursing home is suing over claims her medical condition significantly deteriorated while she was a resident.
Sara Kleine filed a lawsuit Jan. 20 in Madison County Circuit Court against Alton Rehabilitation and Nursing Center and Steven Blisko.
According to the complaint, Sharon Dunahee was admitted to Alton Rehabilitation on Jan. 10, 2013. While living there, Kleine says Dunahee developed a decubitus ulcer, a condition the suit says was avoidable.
Because of the ulcer, the suit says Dunahee required surgical intervention, which led to a deteriorating physical condition. Klein claims Dunahee incurred significant medical costs, endured great pain and anguish and suffered a severe and permanent disability.
Kleine blames the nursing home staff for contributing to Dunahee's injuries, saying they negligently failed to properly notify her next-of-kin regarding a significant deterioration in her physical status, failed to care for her in a manner that enhanced her dignity and quality of life and didn't employ sufficient staff to provide adequate medical care.
Kleine seeks a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just.
Attorney Robert H. Gregory of the Law Office of Robert H. Gregory in East Alton, will represent Kleine.
