Pop's Saloon faces suit after patron allegedly struck

Pop's Saloon in East St. Louis is facing a lawsuit after allegedly serving a patron too much alcohol, which led to another patron being attacked.

Dustin Walter filed a suit Dec. 4 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Pop’s Saloon and Music, which is owned by Mega Leasing Corporation Inc.

According to the complaint on Oct. 28, Walter was in Pop’s Saloon when another patron, Jacob Maupin, struck the plaintiff without any provocation. The plaintiff alleges Pop’s Saloon served a large quantity of alcohol to Maupin, which violates the Dram Shop Act.

The suit states that Walter received severe injuries to the face, neck, head and jaw, and seeks in excess of $50,000 for injuries sustained. He has also missed a significant amount of working days and will miss days in the future due to injuries sustained while in Pop’s Saloon, according to the suit.

Walter is represented by attorney Steven Katzman of Katzman & Sugden in Belleville.
