Dog groomer sued for failing to warn of Mastiff's propensity to fall or lean on people

A Sawyerville dog grooming business and its owners are being sued because a 100 pound-plus Mastiff leaned on or fell on a customer, causing injuries.

Plaintiff Kathy Johnson sued in Madison County Circuit Court Oct. 14 naming Aunt Phillys Scamps & Champs, owner Gwaine Crawford and administrator of the estate of the now deceased co-owner Phyllis Crawford, attorney Doug Mendenhall.

Johnson claims that on Oct. 30, 2012, the dog either leaned or fell with all of its weight while she was standing, causing her to fall and injure her buttocks and back.

The defendants allegedly "failed to warn Plaintiff of the dog's propensity to fall or lean on people," the suit says.

Johnson is seeking damages in excess of $50,000, claiming violations of the Illinois Animal Control Act.

She is represented by John C. Webster of Williamson, Webster, Falb and Glisson on Alton.

Madison County case number 14-L-1406.
