Failure to stop at Wood River intersection causes accident, suit says

A woman has filed suit against the driver she claims drove through a red light, striking her vehicle.

Elizabeth Laubscher claims she was driving north on Sixth Street at its intersection with Edwardsville Road in Wood River on June 15, 2012, when defendant Alexander Mundy, who was driving west on Edwardsville Road, drove through a red stop light and hit Laubscher’s vehicle.

Because of the collision, Laubscher was made sick, sore, lame, disordered and disabled, suffered injuries to her neck, back, right wrist and right leg and incurred medical costs, according to the complaint filed April 2 in the Madison County Circuit Court. In addition, she suffered disability, experienced pain and suffering and lost wages, the suit states.

Laubscher blames Mundy for causing the collision, saying he failed to keep a proper lookout, struck the front and driver’s side of Laubscher’s vehicle, failed to properly apply his brakes, drove too fast and failed to yield the right-of-way to oncoming traffic.

Laubscher is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs. She will be represented by Thomas C. Rich, Kristina D. Cooksey and Michelle M. Rich of Fairview Heights.

Madison County Circuit Court case number 14-L-512.
